The Artist
Hello! My name is Makenzie Wilson, and I am a North Vernon, IN native. Created by Kenz Studio is just emerging, founded the Summer of 2024. This space was created to share my passion and love for all things creative. My husband, Gabe, and I had our first art show at Perception Yoga, Mindfulness, and Art in August: the creativity leading up to it and the creativity that has followed has inspired me to pursue my artistic passion to new heights.
3 Quick Facts About Me:
1.
As a child, I participated in dance classes for 14 years, assisted teaching dance classes to youth for three years and danced competitively for 4 years. It has been a while since I performed for an audience, but I enjoy dancing around the room and acting silly with my kiddos. If a good song comes on during a late night painting session, or if I am feeling uninspired or stuck, I will absolutely set the brush down and dance it out. It really helps to get the creative juices flowing!
2.
I have a very deep and meaningful relationship with the countryside. The hustle and bustle of city life is not for me (although for some people it’s the perfect place for inspiration!). I was raised barefoot on the Indiana dirt, enjoying honeysuckles and blackberries in the summer and snow angels in the winter. Fishing the river and ripping our ATV through the woods at my grandparent’s farm. It’s the childhood I value, and the childhood I wish for our children. I feel like there is room to grow, breathe, and create.
3.
But is there any music? Always! My taste in music varies based on the day and the mood, but most genres I am here for. Sometimes I will play and sing along (not very well!) to Disney hits, other times it will be 90’s Country, Classic, or Today’s Top Hits. And if my family is ever without a stereo or speaker, you bet we are making our own music and singing at the top of our lungs!
Background
I have always been artistic, from childhood into adulthood. I actually met my husband in Advanced Art in middle school, and then started dating in high school after having Advanced Placement Studio Art together. After graduating, I spent part of my undergraduate studies at Herron School of Art and Design before changing majors to earn my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Indiana University/Purdue University of Columbus. I was a Stay at Home Mother from 2020-2023, where I also baked and decorated wedding cakes from home. Come 2024, I have finally decided to commit myself to my true passion: art.
What I do
I create my own, original artwork. That being said, I also enjoy collaborating with a client to create a custom commission. I have painted on various surfaces in various mediums, and I have even sculpted a few creations. I have painted plein aire (outside in different climates), in my studio, or even at weddings (check out my Wedding Services Page!). I am always open to new things! If it makes you uncomfortable, it means you are growing, and I am always trying to improve.
It all begins with a conversation…
Are you considering a custom piece for creation? Do you have a question about a painting or interested in a quote?
